THE Methodist Church in Fiji is looking to strengthen collaboration with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) to address growing social challenges affecting youths across the country.
This followed a courtesy visit by Methodist Church General Secretary Reverend Dr Jolami Lasawa to RFMF Commander Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai this week, where discussions focused on youth development, character formation and nation building.
Rev Dr Lasawa thanked the RFMF for its service to the nation, especially during current social and national challenges, and acknowledged the military’s role in maintaining stability and discipline.
The meeting also explored the possibility of signing a Memorandum of Understanding to allow the RFMF to support church youth initiatives through training, expertise and shared facilities.
Central to the discussions was the church’s proposed “BULI VOU” Ministry, an integrated youth boot camp training program targeting youths aged 15 to 35.
The initiative seeks to help vulnerable youths facing issues such as drug abuse, crime, unemployment and negative influences through spiritual formation, counselling, leadership development, physical training and life-skills education.
The church said the proposed partnership could contribute significantly towards nation building, peace and the development of disciplined and resilient young leaders.
Methodist Church Young People’s Department secretary Reverend Viliame Tunidau also attended the meeting.
