The brawl that took place on Tuesday night at Rewa St, Suva, was a “childish act” and the police should not be blamed for what happened, says People’s Alliance party leader Sitiveni Rabuka.
The former prime minister said the police would have a better record of the previous brawls and a better understanding of what was causing the violence on our streets.
“It is very sad and I ask people to observe the rights of other people and obey the law of the land. Don’t take the laws into your own hands,” Mr Rabuka said.
He said the issue should be addressed via a community-based approach.
“The police should now piece together information to be able to establish the root cause of the problems and law and order situation and what brings the factions to boiling point.
“This is very childish, and it’s more than the police force, it’s society’s fault.
“The community needs to be playing a bigger role in this.”
He said the community police initiative was introduced to curb such issues.
