Rewa beat Tailevu-Naitasiri 2-1 in the 12th round of the Digicel Premier League at Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori yesterday.
Both team scored in the second-half with Rewa establishing themselves as the unbeaten team in the competition. Both teams were scoreless in the first-half.
Kavaia Rawaqa scored the first goal for Rewa after a tough tussle with Tailevu-Naitasiri equalising minutes later.
Rewa coach Marika Rodu said as the competition grew, the competition got tougher.
“The win is very important to us,” he said.
“Our opponents hold us really strong throughout the game. We know that teams will come out strong and hard on us.
“We need to manage the game well and the boys really didn’t utilise the opportunity in the first-half.
“We saw the urgency in the game when it was one-all and the boys showed the level they are that gave us the win.”
Rewa was awarded a free-kick because of a foul by a Tailevu-Naitasiri player, and Rewa player Jeshal Kumar extended their lead. Rodu said they had less crossing and less shots.
“Again the ground contributed to the performance. “It’s difficult to play in this condition, but there is no excuse as footballers we need to adapt to the situation.
“In our situation we adapt to it very late.”
Bruce Hughes and Tevita Waranaivalu will join the Delta Tigers in the next round while Peniame Drova will be rested because of a yellow card, Rodu, a former national rep and coach said.
