Nadi International Airport has been recognised for its carbon emission reduction initiative.

The airport is one of 12 in the Asia-Pacific and the Middle East regions recognised by the Airports Council International and has been awarded the Green Airports Recognition 2022 in the “Below Five Million Passengers Per Annum” category.

“This notable recognition is a testament to our continued efforts towards achieving a recognisable operational performance while actively contributing towards building a sustainable aviation ecosystem,” said Fiji Airports Board of Directors chairman Geoffrey Shaw.

“We will continue to provide world-class service and comfort to all our passengers while being custodians of environment management and sustainable performance,” he said.

The new Terminal Modernised Project – Carbon Emission Reduction Initiative features a modern design and a sleek appearance with LED lights installed throughout the terminal building, a centralised environmentally friendlier chiller cooling system, a software installed to monitor and control electricity consumption of the entire Nadi International Airport terminal and high raised ceilings in the international check-in and departure lounge allowing more natural light.

Acting chief executive officer Isei Tudreu said the gold winning project was in line with Fiji Airport and the Fijian government’s goals of building a modernised airport facility with integrated environmentally sustainable features.
