Fiji National University vice-chancellor Professor Toby Wilkinson urged recipients of the newly launched student bursary scheme to work hard.

He made this statement during the launch of the university’s newly launched scheme, where 19 private students would be assisted with their tuition fees for Semester 1.

Each recipient would receive $1000 in tuition assistance every semester this year and to be eligible for the second semester they are to maintain a full study load, enrolled and have a satisfactory performance in their studies as verified by the dean of the college.

Recipient, Visant Kumar, 19, thanked the university for the assistance and that it provide some relief to private students during this pandemic.

He said he would work hard to maintain the scholarship in the following semester.

“I am thrilled to learn of my selection and I’m deeply appreciative of the support rendered to us students to ease our financial burden of tuition fees,” he said.

Prof Wilkinson said they were confident that students who received the assistance would work hard and become successful in their careers.

“The bursary scheme is a sign of FNU’s commitment to supporting students and their families, especially through the current challenges and we hope the bursaries will enable you to concentrate on your studies without financial worries.”
