A FINAL try in the dying seconds of the match by the QVSOB Blues swung the match in their favour with a close 27-26 result recorded over the Covenant Brothers in Suva yesterday.

The narrow points were the final score of the team’s latest outing in the Suva Rugby Union’s Escott Shield competition at Buckhurst Park 1.

Covenant drew first blood with a converted try in the first half, with QVSOB following with a penalty kick for their side of the scoresheet.

The Blues trailed as the Brothers scored another converted try which was also responded to with a converted try by the Blues as the match went into half-time with scores 14-10 for Covenant.

After the breather, QVSOB took charge of the match’s flow adding three points from a penalty kick and a converted try.

Covenant’s lead at half-time helped them maintain the upper hand despite the Blues’ steady rise, as they scored a converted try and a try to lead 26-25.

However, the Blues held on in the final minutes of the second spell as they advanced further in their breakdowns of Covenant’s defence to score their final try near full-time.

As the hooter sounded, action continued with both teams waiting to see the outcome of the conversion, which soared between the posts and the points awarded to see the QVSOB leave Buckhurst Park happy and glorious.

QVSOB Blues head coach Kini Murimurivalu applauded the team for the mission accomplished.

“The motivation for them was the message sent across before the game, because we told them it was a do-or-die for us because if you want to qualify, this game was more important and I know discipline let us down in the first couple of minutes,” Murimurivalu said.
