SOUTH Pacific Boxing promotion has signed Rahul Kumar and Shamal Ram Anuj to battle for the new Boxing Commission of Fiji bantamweight belt scheduled next month.

The title contest will be a supporting bout to the much anticipated super welterweight BCF title contest between Sebastian Singh and Ratu Rakuro Dauvavana.

The fight was sanctioned by the Boxing Commission of Fiji and to feature two of the country’s top boxers such as Fiji heavyweight champion Petero Qica, Sorokoba brothers Savenaca and Filimoni Naliva Jnr and Jonasa Kavika.

South Pacific Boxing director Mohammed Shameen said boxing fans would be treated to quality fights at the upcoming program.

He thanked the government through the Sports ministry and the BCF for giving the green light to host the event.

“I personally thank the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama for his assistance to allow the fight to go as scheduled,” said Shameen.

“We have been promoting top and quality boxing over the past three years and we will not let the fans down this time around. “The two title fights will be exciting as all boxers are looking forward to become title holders.”

Promoter Freddy Chand said exciting bouts had been planned for the night including women’s bout.

BCF West director Usman Ali Lale reaffirmed there would no repeat of the last boxing saga between Savenaca Naliva and Joseph Kwadjo where the fight was called off because of the slippery surface.

“Regarding the ring – it is of international standard and we will make sure not to allow the same incident to happen again in the next promotion,” he said.

“We have discussed the matter thoroughly with the Sports ministry permanent secretary and rules will be strictly followed.

“We don’t want the public to blame us and we will do our best and put out the best show ever in Lautoka.”

The program will be held at Tilak High School Hall on April 13.
