PRIME Minister Sitiveni Rabuka will headline the Denarau Golf Open Pro-Am this weekend, as he joins fellow golfers and enthusiasts at the Denarau Golf & Racquet Club today.
The two-day tournament, set tee off today and culminate tomorrow, promises an exciting mix of professional and amateur golfers competing in one of Fiji’s premier golfing events.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to tee off alongside Ioane Sigarara, Sai Tokelau, and Eddie Yuen in what is expected to be a captivating round of golf.
Golf Fiji president Amitesh Chandra believes Rabuka’s participation will bring in a lot of excitement.
“He is a very keen player.”
The tournament starts with an 18-hole Pro-Am format, featuring a shotgun start at 9: 30am.Players include a stellar lineup of local and international competitors.
A total of 108 players have registered for the event.
Day two will follow a similar stroke play format, with participants vying for prizes in gross and net categories. Special awards for nearest to the pin (NTP) on all par-3 holes and long drives (LD) for both men and women add to the competitive spirit of the event.
Tomasi Tuivuna, the reigning professional champion, aims to defend his title, while Shakeel Pillay, fresh off his victory at the Ba Open, emerges as the hot favorite in the Amateur Division.
