Police are investigating a complaint lodged by some concerned staff and students regarding governance issues at the University of the South Pacific, police spokeswoman Savaira Gonedua has confirmed.

“Our investigation is still ongoing and that’s the only comment that can be given,” she said.

According to a statement released by the group, the complaint was in relation to the issues, concerns and breaches of past management and financial decisions undertaken at the regional university.

They said the police complaint was a result of allegations of abuse of office contained in a report authored by USP vice-chancellor and president Prof Pal Ahluwalia.

The public’s attention was drawn to this in an article which first appeared in public domain on May 10 and June 2019.

USP pro-chancellor Winston Thompson said he was not aware of the police report.
