Listen to this article:

A total of 37 police officers and summary prosecutors from the Fiji Police Force are undergoing a six-week Office of the Director of Public Prosecution(ODPP) Basic Prosecution Course at the Police Special Response Unit in Nasinu.

Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Elizabeth Rice launched the 2020 Basic Prosecution Course for police prosecutors today.

The course is a mixture of theory and practical exercises designed to equip prosecutors with basic trial preparation and advocacy at the bar table.

Ms Rice said the key to effective advocacy was preparation, therefore, this course was designed to teach trial advocacy skills through case scenarios and in the final weeks of the course.

She said moot courts would be conducted in which participants would be able to test their skills as advocates.

The Basic Prosecution Course is facilitated by ODPP Principal Legal Officer  Yogesh Prasad and will conclude on March 6.
