POLICE investigators are undergoing training on conducting video-recorded interviews, including investigative interviewing for minors and vulnerable persons this week.

The one-week training started at the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority building in Suva and is facilitated by the UK College of Policing and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Fiji Police Force deputy commissioner Rusiate Tudravu said the training was needed for their investigators to learn the skills of dealing with cases where children were involved.

Over the past years, he said, they had dealt with a lot of issues involving children and vulnerable persons, but their investigators did not have the right training and knowledge on dealing with such cases.

The Fiji Police Force is very fortunate to have this training conducted for our investigators on the ground in order for us continue to support of what is required out from us, especially when dealing with people in our custody.”

“The staff here are from the Sexual Response Unit, CID, those that deal directly with the young ones and the most vulnerable.

“We also had a similar training regarding video recording and also the first-hour training that was done.

“We would like to train more of our investigators for this program,” Mr Tudravu said.
