The small grant scheme assistance that is issued by the Prime Minister’s office is focused on the needs identified by communities.

Amelia Komaisavai, the chief policy and research officer at the PM’s office, highlighted this to the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Justice, Law and Human Rights today.

“Projects are identified through the needs that have been identified by the community, which is then raised to the office of the Prime Minister,” Ms Komaisavai said.

“When it comes to the office of the Prime Minister, the ministry is consulted in order to avoid any duplication on the assistance going out.

“The ministries has its own targeted projects for the period.

“Normally, the community comes to us at the office of the PM and the project does not fall into the targeted projects that has already been allocated by the ministries.

“This is how some of the criteria we have identified to pick for projects that we are going to implement in the next financial year.”
