2019 Cokes Games: Peters breaks record; Creates history for school

JAI Narayan College created history through 14-year-old Amy Peters as she claimed the gold medal in the sub-junior girls shot put and set a record of 11.47 metres.

The old record was 10.97m. Peters couldn’t believe that she had won the gold medal and she thanked her sister for encouraging her to take part in athletics.

“My sister forced me to take part in athletics but I preferred to be part of the inter-house meet only because the zone has a lot of competition and people and I wasn’t interested.

“She stopped begging and continued to force me to participate in the zone and now I’m here with a gold medal and breaking the record so thanks to her for this achievement,” said Peters.

She is among the three athletes from Jai Narayan College that represented their school in the Fiji Finals and they’ve stamped their name as well as Peters in the record books for breaking the record in the sub junior girls shot put this year.

“I would like to thank my coach and families for their support,” Peters said.

“I went through a lot of temptation and I struggled with my studies especially during exams where I had to train instead of studying but it was all worth it.”
