A PARENT of a secondary school footballer is concerned that his son may not be able to have a football career.
Vili Baledrokadroka, father of Rewa Youth player Savenaca Baledrokadroka said he believes more should be done to take football to newer heights.
“The coaching staff together with the school management are very supportive towards the sport. I just came to know where soccer stands in the country and Fiji Football Association needs to wake up,” he said.
“These players have great potential and they have bright future but they would end up nowhere.
“Their hopes and dreams ends nowhere when things are not done properly.
“We have the facilities but it is useless if we do not use them. It’s the people who we need to get into the sport.
“If the team does well then we all would be proud to see our football team progress as we are Fijians.
Fiji FA should identify them and give them scholarships and when they go aboard and they will learn number of things and this would add value to the national team.”
He was present to see his son Savenaca play for the Sarawasti College under-19 team in the championship.
He said the ideas needed to be adapted if football wanted to make a progress.
“When we compare soccer to rugby it is nowhere. Our under-20 football team has done a great job but we can do much more but we need right environment in the administration of soccer,” he added.
“FFA needs to restructure and reorganise and get new blood and ideas into the sport.
“We cannot have the same people with the same thinking.
“There needs to be new people if we continue to face the current situation then they can come up with new ideas.” said Baledrokadroka
