The Fire Rugby team is targeting Olympics selection for some of their players by performing well in the final leg of the 48th Fiji Bitter Marist 7s series this weekend.
After impressive showings in the Fiji Bitter Nahehevia 7s and the Tabadamu 7s where they emerged victorious, the team has established itself as a formidable force.
Their latest triumph saw them defeat the tough Police Blue team 15-5 in the final, showcasing their determination and skill.
Head coach Akuila Nasi commended the players for their performance against top competitors and acknowledged there was still room for improvement.
“We still got a lot of work to be done, we are working on our weaknesses and coming in strong for the final leg,” Nasi said.
“It will be a tough competition knowing all teams will be prepared and it is one of the biggest tournaments and we have to be really prepared to get another win.”
The players are determined to catch the attention of selectors with their performances and the support from fans has been instrumental in their success.
“Our main aim is to get our boys selected for the Paris Olympics and to represent the country.”
As they prepare for the final leg of the series, the team is focused on taking one step at a time and giving their all to clinch another victory.
The Marist 7s tournament will kick start tomorrow with the finals to be played on Saturday at the HFC Bank Stadium in Laucala, Suva.
