SWIM Fiji completed the final national competition of the season on a high note at the Damodar National Aquatic Centre in Suva yesterday.

SF general manager David Dugu said all swimmers stepped up to the challenge

. “These swimmers are swimming in full lanes, stepping up to the challenge in achieving the qualifying time,” he said.

“It shows the development programs in all clubs are effective and we want to thank the hard work done by all respective clubs.

“We are seeing some of the fastest swimmers in the young age Fiji has ever seen.

“It’s a reflection of the hard work done by the swimmers.”

He added that the qualifying times had been set considerably challenging and the numbers who have qualified are impressive.

“We are proud of the swimmers and the hard work happening in clubs to prepare these swimmers who are recording already praiseworthy results by qualifying under these tough qualifying time.

“This is the final event for the short course season, featuring competition in the 25m pool.

“While the events are the same as those offered in the 50m pool, there is an element of challenge it provides, and these can upset results as certain swimmers perform better in the short course pool.

“We are excited to see the performances over the three days.”

There were over 240 athletes competing from nine clubs across Suva, Nadi and Lautoka. In an official medal tally the Barracuda swim club led with 31 gold, 24 silver and 19 bronze while Dolphins came in second and Orca third.

They dominated both the men’s and women’s categories.
