ODPP releases October sexual offences statistics

A 16-YEAR-old boy was charged with the rape of an 11-year-old boy last month.

This was revealed by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution today as it noted rape and sexual offences statistics for the month of October alone.

The DPP’s office said there were 19 people charged with a total of 34 counts, out of which 23 counts were of rape, one count of indecent assault, six counts of defilement and four counts of sexual assault.

It further states there were 18 victims, of whom 12 were under the age of 18 years while one was a male victim.

There were three incidences where stepfathers were charged with the rape of their stepdaughters.

The DPP’s office said in one incident that a 19-year-old man was charged with the rape of his seven-year-old cousin.

While in another separate incident, two men aged 18 and 19, respectively, were charged for the rape of a 21-year-old woman.

According to the DPP’s office, three cases were withdrawn where there were false complaints made in two cases, while the other lacked credible evidence.
