THE Sabeto Roosters successfully defended the Vodafone Fiji National Rugby League 9s Championship at Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday.
The Roosters defeated Coastline Roos 16-14 in a close cup final.
Tevita Niusama starred for the Roosters scoring two tries in the match.
The Roosters were down 4-10 at half-time but rallied back with the home crowd support in the second spell to gain victory.
Roosters coach Voate Turuva said they were delighted to make it back to back wins.
He said they only trained for one week because of the festive period.
“The boys really did well in all their matches and I thank them for the hard work,” Turuva said.
“We will now start preparing for this year’s main competition. The aim is to make sure that it is a successful year again for us just like last year.”
The Roosters walked away $1000 richer while the Roos received $600.
The Roosters are also the holders of the Vodafone Cup having beaten the Nabua Broncos 16-6 in the grand final last year.
In the cup semi-finals yesterday, the Roosters beat Ravoravo Rabbitohs One 12-4 while the Roos thrashed Ravoravo Rabbitohs Two 22-0.
Coastline Roos Two went down to Navatulevu Heron 6-8 in the shield final. Nadi Eels defeated Korolevu 28-8 to win the bowl title while Ravoravo Rabbitohs Two beat Ravoravo Rabbitohs One 12-4 in the plate final.
