Update: 12:31PM THE Fiji Pearls retained the Pacific Netball Series title in Cook Islands yesterday.
The Julie Hoornweg-coached side edged Samoa 45-43 in a close tussle to maintain its unbeaten run in the series.
Earlier the Matila Waqanidrola-skippered side defeated Cook Islands 53-40 and 59-36, Papua New Guinea 59-49 and Samoa 50-46.
The win ensures the team’s spot in the 2015 World Netball Championship in Australia.
Fiji team manager RubyAnn Sorovaki said they were thrilled with the win.
She thanked the supporters for backing the team.
“It was a tough match (against Samoa) but the players held on to claim victory. We are excited with this win and now looking forward to building towards the world cup.”
In the other match played yesterday PNG defeated Cook Islands 49-44 to remain in the hunt for the second spot in the series.
The series concludes today with Fiji playing PNG.
