An experienced Ram Sami Army women’s rugby team pipped Olympians Rusila Nagasau and Ana Maria Roqica’s DXC Seahawks 21-15 in the final of the women’s cup competition during the 35th Fiji Bitter Nawaka 7s at Prince Charles Park in Nadi yesterday.

Both sides scored three tries apiece in the match marred by the slippery ground conditions, although the women soldiers converted all their tries.

A star-studded Army women’s team had looked the team to beat in the category after recording impressive scorelines during the three-day competition.

The side walloped Nadi-based Tagimoucia 52-0 in their quarter-final match on Thursday and thumped an unknown Beijing Sisters 33-0 in the semi-final earlier in the day yesterday.

Speedster and Olympian Reavi Uluinasau was ably assisted by fellow Fijiana sevens players Alowesi Nakoci, Liviana Cavuru, Viniana Riwai, Ana Naimasi and Mereula Rawaicevu.

Army women won $1500 while DXC Seahawks settled for $600 and the two losing semi-finalists pocketed $200 each.

Meanwhile, the best female player award was won by Seinimili Riwai of Army.
