To alleviate the impact of the exodus of personnel, the Fiji Navy has allocated a significant amount to recruit 116 officers in 2025.
Navy commander Commodore Humphrey Tawake said the Government had accepted their plea for a boost in human resources.
He said the support from the Government had been tremendous to ensure the Navy executes its roles and responsibilities.
“I must acknowledge the support by the Government despite the challenges we’ve had,” Commodore Tawake said.
“The Government has approved an increase of about 116 personnel.”
Commodore Tawake said it signified the Government’s acknowledgment of their work within the maritime security space.
He said like any other working sector and enforcement agency in the country, the Fiji Navy was also losing personnel to overseas work.
“We have people that have resigned for other opportunities, such as NEC.
“But that does not stop us from doing our job, and we must carry on with the job that we have sworn an oath to do here in Fiji to help within the region and within international peacekeeping.”
Commodore Tawake said a recruitment drive would be conducted after the Navy Defence Review.
