IN 2015 Kinisimere Navula of the Nadi athletics team won three gold medals and helped her team win the under-11 girls title, however four years later, her younger sister Filomena Navula did exactly the same in the same grade at the 2019 Chow Games in the weekend.

Navula scooped three gold medals in the 75 metres and 100 metres finals and helped her 4×100 metres relay team win gold and defended the U11 girls title that her elder sister won four years ago.

The Vunamoli lass from Nadi wished her sister was with her to see her achievements and she was grateful to all those who have supported her reach her goal.

“I would like to thank our sponsors, Fiji Airports and Denarau for providing for us and not forgetting my mum for helping me in training and my teachers and friends especially my dad.

“Kini wanted to come but she has yet to finish school but I hope I’ve made her proud defending the title that she once held,” said Navula.

Nadi head coach and mother of Navula, Ilisapeci Cokanauto was proud of her daughter’s achievement during the competition.

“I’m so proud of her and what she’s accomplished and she started participating when she was eight and she claimed bronze on her first outing and as she moved on she has been winning gold and I’m proud that she has also won three gold medals and a title that her big sister once accomplished,” said Cokanauto.

The overall tally saw Suva claiming 40 gold, 13 silver and 24 bronze.Nadroga Navosa is at second place with 24 gold, 14 silver and 30 gold while Nadi settled in third place with 19 gold, 31 silver and 13 bronze.
