Nasoko ready to fly

UTILITY Kalione Nasoko is back and ready to fly with the Fiji Airways Fiji 7s team in the Oceania 7s at the ANZ Stadium in Suva this weekend.

And he has set his focus of donning the national jumper at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia and 7s Rugby World Cup in San Francisco, USA.

The 27-year-old Nasoko attended Nadi Muslim College, but he could not further his education after Year 12 and started to work, but his hard work and commitment paid off when he made his first overseas trip representing Fiji in the Dubai 7s last year.

“I had been injured for sometime now and I am making a comeback in the team at the Oceania 7s after having missed out of the Munich 7s, Central Coast and Silicon Valley 7s,” he said.

“I am working hard to get on the field again.”

Nasoko ran in two quick and fast tries against South Africa in the final of the 2017 Hong Kong 7s where Fiji won 22-0 against South Africa and with his impressive performance Nasoko also won the man of the match award in the final.

“2018 will be a very busy year for Fiji 7s team where we will have the Commonwealth Games and World Cup 7s with the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series and my aim is to play in the Commonwealth Games and Sevens World Cup,” he said.

“There are new players in the team, but they are not new to 7s and they have been playing 7s for some time and the competition is very tough.”
