NASINU women’s soccer team captain Emily Esposito was the standout performer in the Digicel Fiji Women’s Senior League competition, leading her team to a 1-0 victory over Lami with a winning penalty goal at Pacific Theological College in Suva yesterday.
The match was a closely contested affair, with both teams giving their all on the field. Despite some initial struggles and errors from Nasinu, Esposito’s late-game heroics secured the win for her team.
Head coach Jalindar Singh praised the efforts of the players, highlighting the team’s resilience and determination in the face of a tough opponent like Lami.
He acknowledged the young age of the squad, which is comprised of under-16 and U19 players, emphasizing the team’s focus on development and growth.
“It was a great match the girls showed their best on the field,” said Singh.
“It was a slow start for the side with few errors on the field, but we have grateful for our last-minute goal to secure the win.
“Lami side is a tough opponent they really showed their defence, stopping us from scoring goals, also our side did the same.
“Our team is made up of under-16 players and U19, so we have a young side, developing and making our team stronger.”
Singh expressed the team’s ambition to progress to the premier league and acknowledged the need for continued improvement and focus on addressing weaknesses for future matches.
He expressed gratitude to the players for their commitment and dedication, as well as to the parents for their support.
