Nasilasila opts to remain with Fiji 7s

NATIONAL 7s squad member and Navosa halfback Amenoni Nasilasila has opted to play sevens rugby instead of chasing his dream in the rugby league code.

The nippy backline player made the comment on Saturday at Lawaqa Park after his Warwick Navosa team failed to defeat BLK Nadroga in this year’s last HFC Bank Farebrother Trophy challenge losing 40-25.

Nasilasila has been selected in Fiji 7s training squad and Fiji Rugby League has also included him in the Fiji Bati squad.

“I want to be part of the 2016/2017 HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series with the first one in Dubai,” Nasilasila said.

“I want to reclaim my position in the halfback for the 7s squad but I know it would be not easy.

“There are thirty of us in the extended squad with many new and upcoming players and I know I have to fight for that halfback position,’ said Nasilasila.

The Namatakula lad was one of the unlucky players who missed out on the final selection to Rio in August this year.

He showed his skills at the number 10 jersey for Navosa distributing the ball well to his outside backs and managed to kick a few conversions and a penalty.

“This was my first Farebrother game as well as most for our Navosa players.

“Before the game I was told the Farebrother game is always a different ball game altogether and we have testified to that.

“But the positive thing is it was a good exposure for most of our young Navosa players, we have learnt a lot from Nadroga.

“It was a clean hard rugby from the two teams,” said Nasilasila.

Asked if he had ever thought of joining the Nadroga rugby team next year, he replied, he preferred to remain with Navosa.

“The Navosa management had requested me to be in this team and I will remain with them,” he said.
