Naqiri, Sevutia join Singapore club

SENITETEVA netball player Alisi Naqiri will get her biggest netball break when she joins Fiji Pearls defender Asilika Sevutia to play in the Singapore domestic competition next year.

The talented netter who is also part of the Kate Carpenter-coached Fiji Pearls netball training squad will be using this much needed exposure to sharpen her skills.

Naqiri was one of the star players that helped her Nadi-based Seniteteva team to win the Lautoka Netball club competition early this year.

She also represented Lautoka in this year’s Netball IDC and later selected in the national training squad.

Carpenter confirmed the duo would depart the country early next year. She said the exposure would benefit the players especially Naqiri, who hasn’t tasted international exposure.

“This is a good opportunity for the girls to try out different types of competition, different coaching, different trainings and also different lifestyles. It will obviously benefit them especially for Alisi since this is her first time to be given international exposure. Alisi has not represented the Pearls before and hopefully this exposure will benefit her,” said Carpenter.

“It will be a good netball experience and life experience for both the players as well.”

Carpenter said the duo would also return before the final 12-member Fiji Pearls team is selected for the match against the Silver Ferns in February.

She said she was confident the players would deliver the goods required of them in the Singapore domestic competition. Carpenter said Fiji and Singapore netball had a good connection with more Fijian girls expected to feature overseas in the near future.
