SEVENTY-FIVE models have been selected by the Fiji Fashion Week (FJFW) to take part in the FJFW show in May.

FJFW managing director Ellen Whippy-Knight said they had a huge number of models turning up to be part of this year’s show. The models had their first choreography rehearsals in Suva on Saturday.

“Basically we have chosen six groups. We have about 50 models in the women category, 25 male models this year,” Ms Whippy-Knight said.

“They have been put into various groups by height. We have four female groups and three male groups.

“So for the first time, we have extremely competitive group of models. They are all exactly what designers are looking forward to in terms of posture, physique and height.

“Having these attributes make it easy for the designers to fit them. We are happy with the turnout of the models we had received this year.” She said they also have a plus-size model group as well.

“We had our first choreography session and they were taught timing, space and intuition. It is very important to know where the models are on the floor so that they do not bump into each other,” she said.

“Each model has to own their own space. If you don’t have strict rehearsals like this, it will never work.”

Thirty designers would be taking part at the show this year.
