AFTER 12 weeks of training she bagged two gold medals and a silver at the Pacific Mini Games yesterday.
Miriama Senokonoko made a comeback to athletics after four years and she won two gold medals and a silver medal at the games in Port Vila, Vanuatu.
She clocked a time of 57.34 seconds in the women 400 metres while she ran in the 4x100m relay with Serenia Ragatu, Elenoa Sailosi and Makereta Naulu to win in a time of 47.43s.
The 22-year-old also settled for a silver medal in the women’s long jump Papua New Guinea’s Rellie Kaputin.
“It is unbelievable to win gold after coming back to athletics after four years and it was a proud moment to run for Fiji,” she said after the race.
“I ran for Adi Cakobaou School in 2013 and then I got a two-year scholarship to USA and then in the first year I injured my knee.
“I went through surgery and I decided to pull out of athletics. It was one of my close friends who brought me back and after 12 weeks of training I ran and won medals.
“It was a difficult time but I told myself not to lose hope and have trust in the Lord. It was his planning and I waited.”
Senokonoko said she was grateful to everyone who had supported her career.
