TEAMS from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services are at Draubuta Village in Navosa to conduct vector spraying and medical check-up for the villagers after excessive mud flooded the village early this month.

Infrastructure and Transport Minister Jone Usamate confirmed this to Parliament yesterday, adding that another team would also be at the village this week to deliver relief supplies.

He clarified what happened in Draubuta was that a contractor of the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA), who was constructing the road at the village, had piled up materials to be used on the road that was washed into the village as a result of excessive heavy rain.

He confirmed that a letter was received from the Draubuta Village headman last Friday highlighting the issue.

“Since then, the emergency planning division from the DMO have been there. They’ve met the villagers and spoken with them,” Mr Usamate said

“Now the Ministry of Health is actually in operation there, doing vector spraying, checking everyone’s medical condition.

“The FRA and the contractor have put in equipment to try to clear the soil.

“Once it is verified, the vectors have been controlled, mosquitoes and so forth, teams will be going in this week and take relief supplies,” he said.
