HIDEAWAY Hurricanes 7s team was crowned the new champion of the Martintar 7s tournament at Nadi’s Prince Charles Park yesterday.
The Nadroga-based side survived a tough battle against the high flying Ratu Filise team to win 8-5 after both teams were levelled 5-all in the last minute of the game.
Player of the tournament Aborosio Naqavu was the star for his team for scoring three points from a drop goal towards the end of the game.
Fiji Airways Fiji 7s skipper Kalione Nasoko and speed merchant Alasio Naduva picked Naqavu as the player of the tournament – joining the many big names who have stamped their mark at this event.
Former national 7s playmaker Amenoni Nasilasila was in top form for Ratu Filise, but his talent was not enough to win his side the game.
Hideaway Hurricanes walked away with the $5000 top prizemoney.
Meanwhile, Saunivalu team of Navosa won the under-19 title after beating NYB Brothers in the final.
BLK Nadroga won the plate final beating Vatemo Ravouvou’s McDonald’s Saunaka while former champion Wardens defeated Malawai Eagles to win the bowl.
JB Brothers of Sorokoba won the shield.
