FLYER Jone Marawa was named the Sabeto Roosters best player of Year during the Club’s awards night held at the FNU Theatre in Nadi on Saturday night.
Marawa played a huge role in this year’s Fiji National Rugby League Top 8 competition that helped his teammate lifted the Vodafone Cup this season.
Savenaca Saukawa was named the forward player of the year while Te Nabaro was named the best backline of the year.
Chief guest and Sports Minister Laisenia Tuitubou congratulated these standout performers of the season.
He also thanked other award recipients and commended the effort put in by the management team in hosting the awards night to thank the players for their achievement.
“Tonight is an evening of celebration for this achievement and we are here to give credit where it is due and I am therefore pleased to note that there are a number of awards to be given out in recognition of your rugby talents as well as the administration and management aspect of any sporting organisation,” said Tuitubou.
“I wish to congratulate the club on an outstanding season this year after having won the Vodafone Cup after that hard fought victory over Nabua Broncos.
“You have shown what commitment and determination can eventuate to throughout this year’s competition as you set your goals on once again taking out the Top 8 title.
“I also wish to acknowledge the management board for holding this inaugural event.”
Tuitubou said Sports as you could all attest to is an effective tool for development and this could be witnessed also by the people of Sabeto.
“As I am sure that this was envisioned when the club was founded. I urge you to continue using sport as an impetus for the social and economic development of your community and it is pleasing to note that Sabeto Roosters encourages sports investment because of the wonderful returns that not only benefits businesses, but is also largely due to the rewards grassroots communities are reaping.”
