McDonald’s Fiji has strengthened its partnership with the Fiji Coral Coast 7s, presenting a $100,000 cash sponsorship for the three-day event scheduled for January 16-18 at Lawaqa Park.
This sponsorship marks the third year of a deal between McDonald’s and the Coral Coast 7s, which began in 2023.
Coral Coast Sevens organising committee chair and founder Jay Whyte received the cheque in Nadi yesterday.
McDonald’s Fiji Managing Director Marc McElrath expressed the company’s dedication to fostering sports development in Fiji and its desire to continue supporting the tournament in the future.
“It is again an honor and a privilege to be able to sponsor the Coral Coast Sevens coming up. McDonald’s is very committed to working with sport in Fiji, and we are very humbled and honored in this last year of our three-year sponsorship, it’s saying that we’re working hard to try and continue it year on year.
He highlighted the tournament’s growing stature and the increased participation of international teams.
“The event is getting bigger and bigger, we’re seeing more and more international teams, so the level of sevens in the country is getting better, and this presents a bigger challenge for some of our local teams who are playing as well,” McElrath said.
McElrath also spoke about the interest from overseas teams for upcoming years.
“We have quite a few overseas teams coming in this year. There’s been a lot of interest expresses for next year as well and the year after. So as the tournament grows, this potentially is going to be one of the biggest sevens tournaments on this side of the world.
“So, we’re looking forward to that, and we want to be part of that growth. And on behalf of McDonald, we look forward to a big and successful sevens tournament in 2025,” he added.
Whyte acknowledges the sponsorship which will boost the three days tourney.
