Charging New Zealand golfer Lydia Ko had to be content with another top three finish at the latest stop of the LPGA Tour in the United States.

Ko started the final round of The Ascendant Benefitting Volunteers of America Classic in Dallas, Texas, in second place, just on shot off the lead.

Ko, the world No 5, fired a blemish-free 65 on Monday (NZT) featuring six birdies.

But she couldn’t head off Britain’s Charley Hull who shot a 7-under 64 for a one-shot win over China’s Lin Xiyu.

Ko finished a further shot back in third on a day when she hit 11 of 13 fairways and made 16 of 18 greens in regulation.

She missed a birdie chance on 18 that could have added pressure to Hull and Xiyu.

This was Hull’s second career LPGA Tour victory; her previous win came at the 2016 CME Group Tour Championship.
