LAISA Koroi took over her mother’s flower-selling business at the Suva Municipal Market with a view to take it to another level.

The 49-year-old Davuilevu Housing, Nausori, resident said while there were numerous ways one could earn a living, selling flowers was a very satisfying venture.

She says her entry into the business with her mother’s blessings inspired her to take it to greater heights.

“This was her business and she told me it’s a business that makes people happy because it deals with beautiful flowers,” Ms Koroi said.

“Unlike other businesses, here I am surrounded by beautiful flowers in all their bright colours and beautiful perfume.” Ms Koroi who is from Naigigi, Vanua Levu moved a month ago to Suva.

“I got married one month ago and my husband is from Davuilevu Housing. We got a house here

“My siblings are also staying with us.” Ms Koroi said her mother was old and sickly now and that was the reason she had taken over the business.

“My mother taught me how to prepare bouquets, wreaths and garlands.

“These are traditional skills which will never die because bouquets, wreaths and garlands are used everywhere and in all the functions.

“I never knew the value of it until I started this business.”

Ms Koroi said her husband was not working at the moment due to a medical issue and her earnings supported the family. “Sometimes we earn $50 to $100 in a day.

“This is a good business because you are your own boss.

“I like it too because I get the chance to interact with others and make friends. I am enjoying this business a lot.”

Ms Koroi urged mothers to teach their children how to prepare flowers for various occasions because it was a useful skill to have.
