The jetty in Vunisea, Kadavu, was vandalised by locals right after it was fixed following damage caused by Tropical Cyclone Harold.
Minister for Infrastructure Jone Usamate mentioned this while answering MP Aseri Radrodro’s question on the condition and availability of public convenience facilities at jetties and wharves around the country.
He said the plumbing got ripped off and lights disappeared from the facility.
“The Vunisea jetty is away from the main area so that’s an issue that we have,” Mr Usamate said.
He said they had some discussions with people who sold food to also look after the facility.
“So the plans to upgrade Vunisea, with what we need to do there is the plan for year 2023 and 2024.
“For Naleca jetty in Kavala, we know that we have a public convenience there, a waiting shed, water supply. We know that the solar lights were damaged during Tropical Cyclone Harold.”
He said they had a plan to upgrade it in the financial year 2023 and 2024.
