Lelean ruggers secure Super Deans quarter-final spot

LELEAN Memorial School has secured a spot in the 2019 Vodafone Secondary schools Super Deans champion national quarter-finals.

The boys from Davuilevu defeated St John’s College from Cawaci 17-7.

Lelean led 12-0 in the first half and managed to score another try in the second half.

Assistant coach Marika Sovaki said the players proved themselves to actually book a spot in the national quarters next week.

“We wanted to qualify to the main quarter-final and the boys knew what was expected from the,” he said.

“We thank the players for game, they really played well and we believed in them.

“I thank the supporters especially the parents who have been the backbone of our achievement.

“For them this game was important because it was a do or die kind of situation and they knew how important it is to make it to the national quarters-finals.”

Sovaki said their next step was to work on their weaknesses before the take on Marist Brothers High School.

“We need boost and work on our forwards and also we need to work together as a team.

“We can still see individual playing on the field and improve on our passes.

“Also our defence making sure we defend our territory,” Sovaki said.
