The appointment of four new directors to the Fiji National Rugby League (FNRL) Board highlights the organisation’s determination to restore order amid recent internal disputes.

The newly appointed directors are Sivaniolo Varo, nominated by the West Coast Storms and Ravoravo Rabbitohs Clubs; Nanise Tikoicina from the Nadi Eels Club; Peni Baro from the City Storms Club; and Chris Yee from the Nadera Panthers Club.

This development was emphasised by sitting board member Sitiveni Vuniyayawa of the Ravuravu Rabbitohs following the FNRL’s Annual General Meeting held yesterday at the Fijian Teachers Association Hall on Knolly Street in Suva.

“For the past few months, the news has been dominated by disagreements within the office. What transpired today (yesterday’s AGM) marks a step back in the right direction,” he explained.

With the Rugby League World Cup approaching later this year, he believes the organisation will take the necessary measures to get its act together, thereby maximising Fiji’s chances at the tournament.

“I believe that if we are bold enough to engage and take the difficult steps to clean our house, accept the criticism, and comply with any investigations we must undergo, there will be light at the end of the tunnel,” he said.

Meanwhile, regarding the audit report, chairman Rajesh Singh confirmed that there had been a setback due to staff non-compliance with auditors in March, with audits now scheduled to commence on Monday.

A special AGM will be announced once the audits are complete.
