TWO lawyers disagree on whether the charges their clients face should be consolidated.

The application was made to consolidate the charges against three suspects involved in the murder of Labasa resident John Pelo will be decided in May.

The trio, Amrit Sen, Shumedha Chand and Mustaqir Saif Khaiyum, appeared before High Court judge Justice Daniel Goundar at the High Court in Labasa earlier this week. Mr Sen and Ms Chand were represented by Vasu Pillay and Mr Khaiyum by Kaushik Kumar.

Mr Pillay asked the court if the charges for all the three suspects could be consolidated. However, this was rejected by the second defence counsel, Mr Kumar.

Mr Kumar told the court that such a request would put his client under potential charge of murder which was a serious offence.

His client is charged with conspiracy while Mr Sen is charged with one count of murder, two counts of attempted murder, one count of conspiracy, seven counts of acts intended to cause grievous harm, two counts of criminal intimidation, one count of assault causing actual bodily harm, and one count of damaging property.

Ms Chand is charged with one count of act with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Mr Pelo died following a scuffle at Korotari last year.
