Lawyer, accountant charged for defrauding client of $120k

SEMI Titoko and Aporosa Ratuveikau of Qarcia Barristers and Solicitors, Rakiraki, have both been charged with eight counts of conversion by a trustee in relation to their failure to properly account for monies received on behalf of a client.

This is according to a statement by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

The statement stated the Director of Public Prosecutions, Christopher Pryde sanctioned charges against the duo who are a lawyer and an accountant respectively for their part in defrauding their client of $120,740.

The statement further states that Mr Titoko is also been charged with perverting the course of justice arising from an attempt to prevent the client from continuing a complaint to the Legal Practitioners Unit.

The matter will be for mention on February 26, 2020 in the Rakiraki Magistrates Court where the State will make an application for the matter to be transferred to the High Court.
