Lauwaki landowners receive lease payments

LAUWAKI landowners in Lautoka were given more than $2million in lease payments for the development of native land for the State funded Wairabetia Economic Zone.

While handing over the check today, Minister for Lands, Trade and Industry Faiyaz Koya said the WEZ would be a prime model of efficient and sustainable use of itaukei land for national development and community advancement.

“It is of course important to consider all aspects of development in any project of this magnitude, and ensure that all required due diligence processes have been completed,” he said.

“It is the Government’s top most priority to protect the interests of the overall community, including the natural environment for our future generations.

“This project will be undertaken keeping in mind the importance of conserving our environment and balancing this appropriately with development needs.”
