MEMBERS of the Lau Provincial Council were reminded to look after and protect their nuclear families.

Speaking as chief guest at the opening the 2019 Lau Provincial Council meeting in Tubou yesterday, Assistant Minister for iTaukei Affairs Adi Selai Adimaitoga said it was important the family was secure.

“Our family is the foundation of our lives where correct teachings and principles must be taught and enforced and grounded with love, respect, and good judgment,” Ms Adimaitoga said.

“That is one of the essences of the service delivery of the Government and the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs to ensure we have strong healthy families.”

Ms Adimaitoga also requested chiefs to strengthen the communal way of life, which was once a part of life for our forefathers.

She said this was our way out of poverty and for a prosperous Fiji.

“I, therefore, urge you the chiefs to have a lot of meeting with your people and ensure there are a lot of family meetings.

“This is a perfect time to share your knowledge and teachings on the way forward, on how to protect your identity and your vanua.”

MsAdimaitoga also reminded the chiefs to be wary of developments and to see that any potential investor that comes in would need to consider protecting and conserving our natural resources.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama could not make it to Lakeba because of the adverse weather.

The PM and his entourage decided to return hours after leaving Suva, citing safety above everything else.
