DEFENDING champions Labasa will kick off their Fiji Football Association women’s Inter District Championship campaign against Tavua at Govind Park in Ba at 2pm today.
The northerners will feature star striker Sofi Diyalowai. She scored the winner for Labasa during the final against Lautoka at the same venue in 2012.
Diyalowai won the 2013 Fiji FA women football of the year award for her outstanding performance.
Labasa is aiming for a hat trick of titles having won back to back under coach Arthur Simmons.
Savusavu and Nasinu are the two new teams in the competition.
Ba and Suva are the other teams that have won the title. Ba won the titles in 2002, 2003, 2008 and 2009. Suva won it in 2005, 2006, 2010 and 2011.
This year’s winner will walk away with $2000 while the runner-up will receive $1000. The losing semi-finalists will get $250 each.
The official opening will start at 1.30pm.
The pool matches will continue tomorrow. The semi-finals and final will be held on Sunday.
Today’s matches: 2pm Labasa-Tavua, 3.15pm Lautoka-Navua, 4.30pm Rewa-Nadi, 5.45pm Ba-Nasinu.
