Kinoya reigns

PACIFIC Energy Kinoya Sea Eagles created history when they defeated Nadi Eels 20-16 to win the FNRL premier title at Lautoka’s Churchill Park yesterday.

The side shrugged off a tough Eels outfit to lay their platform for next year’s Top 8 competition.

Head coach Isimeli Soqe said the win was an icing on the cake after the side had secured a spot in the Top 8 competition for reaching the final.

He said the win was special to the team and to their fans.

“This is an emotional moment for the Kinoya Sea Eagles family,” said Soqe.

“We have worked hard over the past years to reach this place and we could not ask for anything better than this win.

“I hope the win will bolster the players morale for next year’s Top 8 competition.”

Meanwhile, in other finals yesterday, Saru Dragons won the U14 title after defeating Malawai Sea Eagles 14-10. The Dragons also defeated Nadera Panthers 14-10 in the U16 grade but the title was snatched away from them for fielding an over-aged player.
