RUGBY Academy Fiji founder Seremaia Bai thanked Penrith powerhouse and Fiji Bati player Viliame Kikau for giving sports gear to the players.

In the academy Facebook page, Bai wrote “sports change lives in Fiji and you will only understand it if it changed yours,” he said.

“We were fortunate to have our very own superstar Kikau coming to visit us on Wednesday despite the rainy weather,” Bai wrote.

“Thank you for your kindness and generosity not only boosted our morale but will surely benefit a lot of young players here in Fiji.

“Your kind gesture will make a positive and tangible impact on young players by giving them a chance and access to participate in sporting activities.”

The Fiji Bati second rower shared his experience with the players stating his humble beginnings and passion of playing the game.

One of the highlights was when he walked 20 kilometres from Marist Brothers High School to Nausori to get to his home in Bau because he didn’t have any money at all.

It was the moment that shaped him and made him the man that he is today.

Kikau added: “you should never forget your beginning when you reach the top, come back and pull someone with you.”

Bai said Kikau joined their training session and shared some core skills and game understanding.

The 23-year-old Bau native joined Queen Victoria School and later Marist Brothers High School.

Bai is also happy with the results the players have shown and hope to get more players for overseas contracts.

“At the moment we have eight players who are on contract in New Zealand and Japan. “This shows how successful we are in reaching our target and we hope to send more players.”
