SHE has always watched Vilimaina Davu strut her stuff in defence for Fiji netball and the Silver Ferns at a very young age.
She idolised the former national captain and coach and wished that she would be like her on court one day.
Today, she believes that the road to her dream gets closer every time she dons the national colours to represent Fiji.
Episake Kahatoka, the lone current U21 player that has represented Fiji Pearls, will from tomorrow lead the national team to the Digicel Punjas International Youth Series.
“It’s great and I am humbled to lead the girls again in this four-day tournament,” the 20-year-old Batiri, Nadroga lass said.
The tall defender said she started playing the women dominated sport when she was 10 years old in her village and today she became the next after Davu from the province well known for its rugby to lead the national U21 team.
“I’m blessed with a lot of people that have contributed to my game especially my family for their faith in me, and coach, I’m still young and have a long way to go,” Kahatoka said.
She had a short stint last year with the Celtic Dragons in the UK and she believes that being with Dragons and Welsh coach Trish Wilcox has taught her a lot in defence.
“Wales has been an awesome experience for me, I played goal keeper then and now Vicki has put me to goal defence too and I have been working on both,” the policewoman said.
