KADAVU booked a ticket to the semi-finals of the Subrails Marama Cup competition after a 31-29 win over Nadroga in the quarter-final at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka yesterday.
The visitors kept a firm grip over the home side throughout the match, even leading over them 26-12 at half-time.
Kadavu head coach Etuate Nauro said the team prepared itself well to meet Nadroga, which he regarded as a formidable side.
“When we reached the quarter-final stage, we had to prepare ourselves well to meet Nadroga because it is not an easy team to play against and it is also an experienced one,” Nauro said.
He added this was a key driver for them since his side was coming up into the Marama Cup this year for the first time.
“When we came over (to Lawaqa), we prepared ourselves well so that we could showcase a good game and even though we had a red card and we were down to 14 players, we’re thankful the players were not let down and it resulted in us completing the game well with a win today (yesterday).”
Heading into the elimination stages, he said Kadavu needed to refine its level of defence since he noted weaknesses within it during previous matches.
However, for yesterday’s match, he said the absence of key players due to international commitments opened up the areas he said they needed to improve on.
“There are some areas we could work on such as our defence and our line-outs.”
He also thanked the players for their hard work, the team’s supporters for their support and the Lord for His guidance in getting them the win.
