SITIVENI Rabuka’s overseas counsel will not be present in court today for the hearing of the appeal case against the former prime minister and Social Democratic Liberal Party (SODELPA) leader.

The hearing is scheduled to begin at the Suva High Court today.

Mr Rabuka’s counsel Filimoni Vosarogo confirmed this and said proceedings would be watched on live stream and would also be  televised.

Mr Rabuka was acquitted by the Suva Magistrates Court last month for  his alleged failure to declare his assets, liabilities and income contrary to the Political Parties Act.

During the first call of Mr Rabuka’s case on October 30, Chief Justice Anthony Gates said the case must be expedited as it was an electoral case that would determine how someone would be qualified or disqualified from contesting this year’s general election.

Justice Gates is set to deliver his judgment on November 12, two days before the 2018 General Election.

The hearing will commence at 10.30am.
