The Government of Japan provided $214,310 to Nakaidrau Infant School for the construction of a three classroom building, inclusive of an office, library space and furniture, under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) Program.
Dr Ikeda Yuichiro, Counsellor and Medical attache of Japan to the Republic of Fiji, did the hand over of the new facilities to the school today Friday, November 20, 2020 at Nasalia Village in Naitasiri.
Nakaidrau Infant School was using the village hall as classrooms for Years 1 to 4 because they did not have proper school building.
Furthermore, to attend the nearest boarding school, students in Y5 to Y8 had to cross a river numerous times risking their safety.
Understanding the plight of the students and parents, the Government of Japan funded the construction of a three-classroom building inclusive of an office, library space and school furniture (60 sets of desk and chair for students, 3 sets for teachers and 6 long table).
Not only has this assistance provided the students with an opportunity to study in condusive learning environment, it has also lifted the standard of the school buildings to cyclone-proof standards, making the school a reliable evacuation centre for the surrounding communities.
