Japan move for Osborne

FLYING Fijians and Highlanders flyer Patrick Osborne will be moving to Japanese club Kubota Spears at the end of the Highlanders 2017 Investec Super Rugby season.

Osborne was influential in the Highlanders recent 23-22 victory over the touring British and Irish Lions in Dunedin, New Zealand, last week.

He had a stint with the Japanese club late last year, where he scored six tries in five games.

“I am going to Japan after the Highlanders season and carry on my rugby there,” Osborne said.

The 29-year-old Mavana, Lau lad arrived into the country last Thursday just in time for his father Patrick Osborne Sr’s 60th birthday.

Osborne says he would be dedicating this week’s game to his family.

“Every time I put on the Highlanders jersey, Canterbury jersey or whatever I always put in on with pride. Because I know every time I go out I represent my family name, where I am from, Mavana, Lau and the whole of Lau Group.

“I get strength knowing that I am from there and everybody is behind me, supporting and praying for me,” he said.

The former Queen Victoria School student has featured 42 times for Canterbury in the New Zealand Provincial Championsip and 54 times for the Crusaders, Chiefs and Highlanders in Super Rugby.
