Under the Fiji–Australia Vuvale Partnership, Australia and Fiji are working together to deliver modern, resilient school infrastructure to support growing communities in the Suva–Nausori corridor. Through the Fiji Social Infrastructure Program (FSIP), design work and consultations are underway for two priority projects: a new Davuilevu Secondary School and a major upgrade of Suva Primary School.

A New Purpose-Built Davuilevu Secondary School

Davuilevu Secondary School currently shares facilities with Davuilevu Primary School, contributing to overcrowding and limiting enrolment capacity. Australia is supporting the construction of a standalone, purpose-built secondary school that reflects modern education standards and responds to rapid population growth in the Davuilevu area.

Early design concepts prioritise durable, climate-resilient infrastructure that will serve students and the wider community for years to come. Developed through consultations with the Ministry of Education, school leaders, teachers and community representatives, the designs also incorporated gender-responsive planning, safe movement across the campus, and layouts that support students with disabilities.

Revitalising Suva Primary School

At one of Suva’s oldest schools, Australia is supporting a staged modernisation of education facilities. The upgrades will include new classroom blocks, enhanced specialist learning spaces such as a library and computer lab, improved accessibility and safety features, and modern amenities that support more inclusive learning environments.

The phased approach will allow learning to continue safely once construction begins. These improvements will extend the life of the school while creating spaces that better support teaching, learning and student wellbeing.

Investing Where It Matters Most

Both projects were identified through an evidence-based assessment of schools across the Suva–Nausori corridor, which highlighted overcrowding, ageing buildings and limited accessibility as key priorities for investment. This assessment has guided Australia’s investments, ensuring resources are directed to schools with the greatest need and aligned with Fiji Government education priorities.

Delivering Through Partnership

FSIP is delivered in partnership with the Ministry of Education and prioritises the engagement of Fiji-registered consultants, contractors and suppliers during design and construction – helping strengthen local capacity, support jobs and retain economic benefits in Fiji.

The new Davuilevu Secondary School and the upgraded Suva Primary School reflect the practical impact of the Vuvale Partnership, demonstrating how Fiji and Australia are working together to deliver safe, inclusive and resilient learning environments for current and future generations.
